People hate nuance when it doesn’t benefit their fav.

A recent post about Glinda’s switch up went up on this sub and I see so many people disagreeing and upvoting but this is the same crowd that gets on people for saying Glinda is a villain with the whole they don’t understand nuance and media literacy blah blah blah. You’re telling me somebody saying, “maybe you’re not as powerful as you think you are” in the tone in which it was said and within the context doesn’t come off as jealousy and haterish? Now, it likely was both an attempt to protect a friend and a small slip of the shameful emotion that is jealousy but to say there was no hate in that remark is just insane. Especially when it was said after cutting her off from a spell. These people would then turn around and also say Glinda is worried about her own interest and the like… guess what? When someone is worried about their own interest, when they can’t get what other people have, they get jealous pretty easily. Also relationships are complex and so are emotions so you can be jealous of a friend and still love them dearly… it doesn’t make you a disgustikified person, it’s just a human reality. Lastly, there were so many moments where you could see the hurt in Glinda’s face with Elphaba getting everything that she herself ever wanted. Like the scene with the invitation and Morrible saying, I have faith in you, look at Glinda’s face….she’s been yearning for that kind of approval from Morrible since the very first few scenes at Shiz.

TLDR: It seems nuance only matters when it is about defending a privileged white girl but once it doesn’t benefit her, throw it out the window right? Very on par for the core audience of broadway shows so not surprising. A comment one makes can come from a multitude of emotions being felt at the same time and that’s where nuance enters the chat. I can say something like what Glinda said for someone’s protection BUT also have it come from a smug/mean-spirited part of myself because pure desire for protection would be packaged and delivered very differently. But go ahead and downvote, idgaf, it doesn’t change the fact that your bestie Glinda has a little bit of hater in her/isn’t the most well meaning, “trying her best” girl that yall want her to be so bad. Mind you that girl ain’t give up a damn thing in the entire musical except for the a in her name like please give me a break with the she was trying her best 🤷🏾‍♂️😂
