Does downloading videos with yt-dlp count as ingress or egress traffic on a GCP server?

Hi everyone,

I’m running a VPS on Google Cloud Platform, and I’ve been using yt-dlp to download videos directly to my server. I’m trying to better understand how this activity is categorized in terms of GCP’s traffic policies:

Does this count as ingress (incoming) traffic to my server or egress (outgoing) traffic from it?

I know GCP typically charges for egress traffic, so I want to be sure I’m not unintentionally racking up charges.

For context, I’m only downloading videos from external sources (like YouTube) directly to my GCP server. I haven’t yet transferred the files to another location.

I’ve already asked various AI models, but they gave me different answers: ChatGPT and Claude said it’s inbound traffic, while Google’s Gemini said it’s outbound traffic. I’m really confused about this.

Thanks for any insights!
