i gave myself a hernia flipping a patient.
another nurse peaked her head out of a room as i was walking by and said "he's down". i didnt understand so i walked in and found a 400lb man face down on the floor. i gave myself a hernia, fliping him to attempt to code them. the nurse i was helping, waited until afterwards to mention he was a dnr. i ended up losing my contract (and health insurance) because of it and drained my savings, and had to get on medicaid to fix it (no one would let me work once i had it) overall out of pocket expenses ~25k (supporting myself wife and children while out of work along with medicaal expenses). it drained me, and i still haven't financially recovered. never again. im in my 20s, and soon to be 30s. that was probably my only chance to ever own a home. NEVER AGAIN. this was about a year ago. contract rates have dried up now and my wife was pregnant with our second child at the time. people have delusional ideals and veiws about how nurses should be and im not conforming anymore. MAY I REPEAT NEVER AGAIN. the man apparently wouldnt keep his alarms on and would piss on the floor out of spite. i guess he got up and slipped in it and caved his skull in on the floor because of it. thanks random dude for picking me to be your last F you to the hospital. thats my rant about how a CMO COPD dickhead of a patient dried up the last little bit of my heart. its just a job to me now, i just put my happy face on around my patients now but i will never risk my own health even in an emergency situation again. occasionally i get a patient i care about now and i usually just try to get a different assignment the next day.
