Doctor found m proteins
So it’s actually my mom who is the patient. She went to a rheumatologist for arthritis treatment and had a lot of blood tests done. The doctor did an SPEP which found a monoclonal protein of 0.88. The doctor then did a IFE which said this: Monoclonal spikes in the gamma region. IFE gel pattern shows a polymerizing IgG type kappa monoclonal protein. The rheumatologist is referring her to HemOnc for further analysis of her situation. She also has done a 24 hour urine sample which showed some Bence Jomes proteins. So my question is what is the likelihood of this being MM? The rheumatologist described it as possible MGUS. She has a low iron level. Low RBC and Low Lymph# but we believe this anemia is caused by the iron deficiency. Of course when I found out about this protein I googled it and it scared the mess out of me. My mother is scared but thankfully has not googled it after me begging her not to. I’m just wanting to know if this is just MGUS or could it be more? I appreciate any and all answers. Thank you!
