changed my laptop UEFI logo and lost my mind doing so :)

redoing this post here since some sigma male over r/linux decided to report my post idk

so i’ve been in this rabbit hole for two weeks now, i’ve got an HP EliteBook, and while reading though the UEFI pdf manual trying to figure out stuff to enable secure boot on my arch linux partition (which i eventually managed to set up, you can argue it’s a waste of time but i think it’s cool) i found at the bottom stuff regarding changing the boot logo

now since sadly (afaik) i can’t libre boot this laptop, i thought it’d be cool to put the logo on it anyways

so i started by dual booting windows (ew 😭) and then proceeded to look for the “Firmware Update Pack” for my machine, which doesn’t exist because someone at HP thought i’d be funny if they uploaded the software I was looking for but with a different name

anyways

i wasted hours of time trying to do that as the manual said (using HpFirmwareUpdRec.exe) which didn’t work at all even if it said success in the logs

but today i found out that someone on HP forums suggested years ago to run Set-HPFirmwareBootLogo in powershell (you must have installed Client Management Script Library from HP, which by the way is a totally different software than what the manual says) and that… worked?

so well since this process gradually gave me insanity i started to add stuff in the boot logo until i finally succeeded so here’s the outcome

i might eventually try to understand how this fuckery works and maybe create a linux tool to do this, i’ll edit this post if i do so
