Friend's power got wrongfully shut off for 24 hours. [Ontario, Canada]

As the title implies.
My friend [who doesn't use reddit] had their power cut off yesterday, claiming the bill had not been paid.

That's been handled. It WAS paid, human error just happened. Friend has receipts of the payment and they have agreed to reinstate power under "Oops, you're right." or some other hardly comforting reason.

Both yesterday and today were spent on hold with the company. Was told to call again tomorrow morning and they'll send someone.

Getting the power back alone is annoying, but that's hopefully straight forward. What we want to know is what can be done about damages? There's both a fridge and freezer full of groceries that, after this long, anyone would worry about its edibility.

Can compensation be asked for, and if so. How? Specifically under the fact that power was shut of wrongfully, not because the bill wasn't paid. Nothing wrong has been done on our part.
