MSI vs Dell Laptop

MSI makes motherboards but dell doesn't. On the internet dell seems to be more reputable. If I prefer longevity, should I opt for latitude 3540 or try MSI laptops?

Let's focus on longevity. I don't care performance that much, as a pre-college engineering major.
