VLC Player - Library Files not showing up

Im using VLC player for video files on my iphone. trying to transfer files off my Iphone but I can't find the files locally. They all appear in the VLC library however when I go to

FIles > VLC the folder is empty.

Where do the files go when they are downloaded?

How do I get them to show up ? and how to I transfer files from the Files folder? The standard Windows transfer doesn't seem to pick up any of the pdfs, photos or videos in the "file" folders.
