Various Brown Spots on my Basil?

Hi everyone! So I currently have a basil plant (bought completely on a whim because my store didn’t have anything else) that I’ve had for maybe a little over a month now. It’s been sitting in a north facing window and I live in upstate New York so it essentially hasn’t seen any direct sun. I plan to make a pasta sauce tonight but saw these brown marks and wasn’t sure what these were. So: 1. What are these marks? 2. How do I fix this issue/ can I fix this issue? 3. Is it safe to eat if I choose ones with no or few brown spots?
