Volcanologist is my dream job—just finished my master’s. Any advice on where to go next?
Working as a volcanologist or igneous petrologist has always been my dream job. I just finished my master’s degree (focusing on igneous petrology) and not surprisingly I am having trouble finding any jobs of interest.
Most jobs focus on hydro or sedimentology. I’d love to work for the USGS but am not sure the best way to go about this. Should I take a geology job I’m not really interested in for now to get experience? Or wait for the right one? Or even try and work with lab equipment in the mean time (which I’m not sure how to find either)?
Any advice is greatly appreciated. I’ll get a PhD if I have to but want to get work experience now & work towards my goal. Thanks so much!
