So... does liquid paper actually work?

'Cause I can't remember the last time I've seen it actually do what it's supposed to. Every time the contestants do Cannister Damascus with liquid paper, they end up wrestling to get the can off for a half hour. I wanna say that the smiths are doing it wrong, but I feel like too many of them have had this issue for it to be a coincidence.
