How have so many young-ish people afforded to start farms that are producing enough for them to make a living selling the product they farm?
I've always craved farm ownership and nursery/greenhouse ownership. I love plants I love working outside I love animals. I love hard work. I'm not scared of it at all.
What is confusing me is I see so many people in the area where I live in the US that have fully functioning farms, albeit somewhat specialized, And they are selling their goods and making a decent living. Setting aside money for savings. Putting money in retirement. Traveling.
How in the world are they affording the land to start these ventures And then everything needed to get the farm up and running? Are these just people that are lucky and had family money? Really good with their finances? Is there some magic formula?
We have savings, we have investments, etc. but it isn't money we could put into a huge venture like that.
I would just love to go that route but I can't for the life of me understand how people are affording to get started in the first place plus running for a while before you really start making a lot too, I'm guessing.
Just curious of people's observations around this.
