Spooky Lynch experiences?
I wondered if anyone else had odd things happen to them while watching his films or immediately afterwards. Disclaimer: this is a silly and light-hearted question — coincidences are fun!
The first time I watched Fire Walk With Me in 2008, I knew nothing about Twin Peaks — neither did the flatmates I was watching it with. Needless to say, we were terrified and disturbed out of our minds but somehow compelled to keep watching.
The next morning, I was the first to wake up and brush my teeth. Our bathroom mirror had inexplicably cracked right down the middle overnight, and I remember staring at it in disbelief because it was like something out of the movie.
The second incident I remember is also Twin Peaks-related, and occurred in the same year if not the one after that. It was in the late evening. My then-boyfriend and I were, I think, approaching the end of Season 1, and likewise wholly creeped out yet enraptured.
We were watching it on my laptop with all the lights switched on…I can’t explain what happened next, but all of a sudden we were both waking up in complete darkness. The battery on my laptop had died. Neither of us remembered dozing off or turning off the lights, and we were especially bothered by the latter, so much so that we just pretended it never happened.
A recent one that’s a stretch, but still amusing: my partner and I re-watched The Return a month or so ago. We were in the living room and heard a strange, recurring chime. At first we thought we were hearing things, but our cat reacted to it as well. We started trying to investigate the source and I immediately thought of the scene where the same thing happens to Benjamin Horne and his assistant. The chime rapidly became more and more of a violent electrical buzz, and my partner joked that we shouldn’t get too close to any power outlets lest we get sucked right in. The sound eventually went away with no explanation, and we haven’t heard it since!
