Chengdu-Shenyang per train + additional typical tourist questions
I am planning to visit friends in China this February. I am considering taking the train both from Guangzhou to Chengdu (very certain) and from Chengdu to Shenyang (less certain).
Apparently via high speed train it is possible to reach Shenyang in 14-15h. While it is more costly than a plane ticket, the idea of seeing as much of the Chinese countryside over considerate distances is very appealing to me.
My questions are the following:
- What should I expect 2nd class, 1st class and business class respectively in regard to comfort? As it will be long ride but especially business class seems to be quite pricy (400-500 usd if the info I found online is correct). That's why I am considering 1st class which is considerably cheaper (200-300 usd) ____
- Is the train ride from Chengdu and Shenyang "worth it"? Meaning, will I be able to see a variety of landscapes or will it be much less exciting than I am imagining right now? ____
- Is it possible to book window seats specifically?
Also, if someone has the patience to answer the additional questions by an ignorant tourist below, I would be very grateful.
Is it possible to get an eSim for at least datawhich works in China? I've read conflicting information on this. If not, what are my alternatives?
Besides Alipay, are there any other essential apls which I can and should setup as a foreigner before I travel to China?
Thanks in advance for any reply!
