Joining the Air Force before becoming a flight attendant?
TLDR: Not acing the interviews like I hoped I would, so I’m considering joining the Air Force before applying to become a FA to gain experience and confidence, but I’d prefer to become a FA sooner rather than later. Not sure what passion to chase first.
Hi everyone,
I haven’t been acing my interviews like I hoped I would. I was sent home after my Alaska F2F and failed my Delta VI. (Haven’t heard from UA or Hawaiian yet).
I have an AA F2F coming up soon and I’m more nervous than usual. To be frank, I’m terrible at interviews. My boss even told me I’m terrible at them, but that I’m an excellent employee (her words). She almost didn’t give me the job, but was glad to have taken a chance on me.
The thing is, as you all know, the FA career has a massive competitive edge. Barely scraping by with a boss “taking a chance on me” just won’t cut it in this career. So, despite this being my ultimate dream, I’m nervous, and just don’t see how I could pass the final F2F.
With that being said, I’ve always had an interest in joining the Air Force, and I’m seriously considering it—not only to gain more work experience, but to find more purpose in my life (I’m 22) and gain confidence. The only drawback is I’m losing the time to gain seniority if I stop actively pursuing the commercial FA career for the time being. And, more than that, I just really, really want to be a flight attendant.
My mom’s a great advice giver so I turned to her initially, and her advice was that I’m becoming discouraged too readily. She told me not to give up my dreams solely because I’m not achieving them as fast as I’d like. And that maybe I’ll do well at the AA F2F!
I completely agree with her, and appreciate all the help she’s given me, but I’m also looking for opinions from current or aspiring FAs. I wasn’t sure where else I could ask this question, but I’m hoping for maybe a bit of support, advice or guidance.
Thanks so much in advance.
