Questions about recovery
I have my surgery coming up soon, and I’m hoping to get some insight on how the recovery process went for others who had similar procedures! I will be having a lapidus orthrodesis bunionectomy, so I will be in a cast, non weight bearing for 6-8 weeks.
I have acquired crutches, a knee scooter, a shower chair, and an elevated wedge pillow. Is there anything else specific that anyone would recommend to help with recovery? Is it worth getting a special cast cover for showering, or is it fine to just cover it with a trash bag and elastic or something?
I know that generally I should be elevating my foot as much as possible but what exactly does that mean? Like how many hours a day? Should I be sleeping on my back with it elevated every night (I hope the answer is no because I have so much trouble sleeping on my back in general lol)
For anyone who has had the same/similar procedures, what has your range of motion been like post-recovery? The reason I’m having the specific procedure I am is because of hypermobility, so I know that I will never have as much mobility as I do currently again, but I’m just curious how much it will be limited going forward.
Lastly, any tips on staying sane??? I am a very active person, and I literally cannot ever sit still. Even when I’m watching tv, I’ll just randomly get up every so often and walk around the room lol, so I’m pretty sure I’m actually going to go crazy here🙃
