Bizarre X39 “house music” scam?

Making this post just cause I wanted to see if anyone in the area relates to this/knows any more. Today I was at the bus station for the X39 when I was approached by a man asking me about what’s trending on TikTok, as he apparently saw I was on it on my phone? I wasn’t, which I told him, and he kept going and asking what’s trending. I acted uninterested and he moved on thankfully, but then went up to someone else and did the same thing. On the bus he hopped from seat to seat and started conversations with people. No idea what he was after

Weirdly, my boyfriend told me about the same thing a week or two ago; someone came up to him and asked him if he was listening to house music. He wasn’t, which he told him, then the conversation drifted into small talk (what made you come to Bristol etc) then he moved on to someone else. Have checked with him but it sounds like it’s different people oddly enough

Does anyone know what they’re after? It’s so persistent that it must be for something??
