Having trouble escaping the video game look

So I've been learning blender the past 3 years or so. I've learned alot and I've been working on a series for my channel and capstone project for my masters mixing live action and CG environments. While I like the look of some of my work, I find that it just feels so video game like.

Like it reminds me of the old red alert 2 cut scenes which I loved as a child but obviously I want it to look better than that.

What is the key component I'm missing for realism besides better detailed models?

About 60% of the models in these shots are made by me, others are from various asset packs. Just looking for some advice on how I can get closer to realism.
