Why don't you move? What's keeping you in Toronto
"How the heck did you get here..." that thought has crossed my mind pretty consistently the past few weeks as I've traveled across Canada and visited in different communities.
Whether it was Northern Ontario or Alberta or the interior of BC... you get to see how surprisingly diverse communities are across Canada because of all the people who move there from other provinces.
Maybe it was my ignorance and limited exposure to small town Canada but from what I've seen, they really do have a lot of the same types of jobs that big cities do. Retail, white collar jobs, general labour, hospitality, etc. its not all the boonies :S so why don't people try breaking away from the competition of the big city? Esp as so few people will even consider moving!
I know my friends are not representative of the city but it feels like Canadians, compared to Americans, move less over their lifetime. I can't even tell you the number of Americans I've met working in cities they didn't grow up in (i.e raised X, went to school in Y and moved to Z) but in Canada it seems quite the opposite? You grow up, go to uni/college, and work in the same city.
Is it comfort? Lack of information/opportunities about other cities? Moving costs? Curious if anyone has moved and where/why!
