Atlas Air - please give us full control over Mic noise filtering
I received my Atlas Air yesterday.
Comfort and sound are really great. I prefer to do the configuration / firmware update with the Smartphone Swarm II App instead of the Windows software+driver. Sure I've tested the Software+Driver on Windows, but later decided to remove both.
As I use APO Equalizer for tweaking all my audio devices, I'm not bothered by the Swarm-EQ-Bug but there is one thing I really dislike about the Atlas Air (and I really hope that Turtle Beach might improve on that with new firmware updates):
There is some kind of aggressive noise removal / gate filter on the mic at all times. You can really hear it on soft spoken word...the filtering is often cutting out parts of words and make the mic sound un-natural.
The corresponding option in the Windows and Android/iOS Swarm II app is not giving us full control over that noise gate / noise filter. Even with the lowest de-noise setting (or when it is turned off) in the App the aggressive filtering inside the headset DSP/firmware is still noticeable. That's why the mic signal is completely silent (less than 60dB) when not speaking, even when the signal is boosted ~12dB. Usually without a noise gate/filter the +12dB boosted silent signal should still put out a bit of self noise.
I would definitely prefer full control to deactivate that internal noise filter for a more natural sound.
Other than the mic processing, I do love the Atlas Air...pretty good and neutral sound, finally an open back wireless headset and it's super light and comfy as well.
