People idolize Japan for the strangest things

Like I love Japan and I think it’s a really nice place, but there’s so many things that people idolize Japan for that are just not correct. Like people be saying Japan is a bulwark against censorship. Like seriously? The place where you get fined if you don’t pixilated genitalia to the point where you couldn’t even recognize what it’s supposed to be if it weren’t for the location of the pixels on the body is a bulwark against censorship? Is this really a hill you want to try to defend? Because you will die there. Then there’s the trains. People be talking about how much better behaved people are on Japanese trains than American trains when in reality sex crimes are so common on Japanese trains that there’s a Japanese word that explicitly means sex crime committed on a train and most Japanese women report that they’ve been assaulted on a train to some degree at some point in their lives. Like just because it’s a sleazy business man discreetly groping a 14 year old and not a drunk homeless man yelling doesn’t make it better. Like that whole hentai trope where a woman gets assaulted on a train has a basis in reality.
