Bob Kramer Knife

I have an original Bob Kramer chef's knife that I've had for decades. I used it daily for about 20 years before I broke the tip off in a freak accident. I had just opened my first restaurant and couldn't afford to get it repaired, so I put it in a drawer and kind of forgot about it. Six closed restaurants and a couple of ex-wives later, I found it again. I contacted Mr. Kramer about repair and rehab, and was quoted $1200 for rehab or $50 to repair the tip. I know the knife is valuable, but is it worth $1200 to "bring it back to new"? The $50 repair is a no-brainer. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
