Ferpa violation?

I heard a story online that I don't know if counts as a Ferpa violation or not.

So the story was a young teacher had a student who was the great grandchild of a family friend. The poster said the great grandfather was her childhood neighbor who stepped into a grandpa role for her as her own grandfather was dead. So she was close with the family. Well she called him and said it must be a small world because she is teaching his great grandson now.

I'm studying to be a teacher and just learning about Ferpa. To me this don't sound like a big deal as it was not saying like the kids grades or how they are doing in class(progress report). I want to make sure I know so when I'm a teacher I can follow the laws right.
