Subbing for longer than 30 days
This is in California.
Does anyone have experience subbing for longer than 30 days in one assignment? The school I’m at has been using a teacher’s longterm absence in order to get extra support in the behavioral classroom. Technically the teacher is back but only for half days on workers comp. Anyways I enjoy working in the classroom and they can really use the extra help since the room is understaffed. The teacher has even asked the principal if there’s any way I can stay till the end of the year, so there’s that. The assignment is classified as SPED so I’m technically already over the 20 day limit. The district hasn’t said anything and the principal wants to just go week by week and keep putting me in until the district says no. So has anyone had this kind of thing happen before? I don’t want to lose my license obviously. In my mind it’s not the same as covering for a long term assignment, I’m really only covering for this teacher on paper, in reality I’ve been supporting a classroom and helping out in other classrooms as needed. Unfortunately the district doesn’t really do building subs and there’s currently a hiring freeze due to a budget crisis so it’s not like the school could get more staff anyways. Thoughts?
