Are Death Troopers just bodyguards?

I’ve always viewed Death Troopers as Navy SEALS to the average Stormtrooper. The special forces unit that get sent on dangerous missions that the average Stormtrooper can’t do but all they ever seem to do is guard high ranking Imperials.

Are they exclusively just bodyguards or do they get sent on their own missions as special forces. They seem extremely decked out for just bodyguards.
