Hides aren't allowed in cages at college
Basically I got dinged on my health and safety inspection because the RAs couldn't see the rats / all of the rats inside their hides. So they required me to remove all hides / hammocks / most fabric covers and tunnels. And yes, I did ask them if they had checked inside the hides... They said no but that it didn't matter because the animals have to be in full view at all times without any obstruction. I even provided vet recommendation notes but those were not accepted. I also wasn't allowed to even keep the items because "you could use them without permission" so I had to toss out over $80 dollars worth of items including a Spudnik into the dumpster in front of an RA.
I also now have to cover all sides but the front facing with cardboard because one of the rats apprently kicked out some litter during inspection through the bars. So I also got a ding for "allowing animal feces on carpet". I was at work when this happened so /: yeah. Which I also got in trouble for because I'm apparently supposed to pay someone (?) To watch them if I'm not in the room which can't be a roommate. They're literally in a cage but Sure Jan. I had assumed that rule was for cats/dogs but apparently not! Luckily, someone down the hall is willing to sleep in my dorm for $10 a day. Though I feel bad because I work an overnight shift that's 10pm to 6am.
Their cage looks horrible right now but there's not much I can do without being kicked out unfortunately. Also had to pay to get the carpet shampood and washed which seemed a little much but at least it was only a $20 rental at home depot.
Oh and I'm only allowed to free roam them outside, not even on the tile bathroom floor because of their scent marking. Totally understand for the carpeted areas but seriously, the tile?? Super stressful considering how many hawks are present in my area.
I'm now moving out in Late Oct should the apartment waiting list slot be correct. I was required to stay on campus for a minimum of one semester and had to move out of my hotel room for this smfh. I'd move out next week if I wouldn't lose over 2K of my deposit that I need for the apartment.
They're 100% legal ESAs for anyone concerned.
