Mad I didn’t know about update

I’ve been playing this game daily for a long time and am in the 4000s. I kept seeing people post about things I wasn’t seeing or offered and was really confused. I had saved up for the yacht forever, still wasn’t showing up. Had no idea what this “flamingo drive” people were talking about, or times makeovers I saw pics of. Someone suggested I see if there is an update. Whadda you know, had to go to AppStore and update then the yacht and timed makeover showed up. Apparently I missed an entire route challenge (which are my favorite). I’m just kind of pissed, because nothing in the game told me to update and I had no idea I was missing out. Sorry, just a vent. I spend a LOT of time on this game and that made me mad.
