For one, its plain annoying and weakens your point, like you're unsure of what you are saying and are trying to soften it. Hiding behind a nervous laugh to avoid confrontation or an actual discussion is avoidant. It can also murder the tone. Imagine reading a serious statement like "I just lost my job lmao." It makes no sense. It's just verbal white noise and a lazy filler.

It replaces real engagement and interaction. Also not everything is funny. If everything is lol, then nothing is. It's like seasoning your food with only salt – boring.
