What're you playing this weekend? 12/27

Hello everyone! Happy Holidays, and welcome to the weekend!

Hope everyone had a good Christmas, and are enjoying Hanukah! I had a good one, definitely very relaxed and nice. I got Echoes of Wisdom but I have not had a chance to start it yet.

As we're nearing the end of the year, thought I'd talk about some of the games I really enjoyed this year. Most of them did not release this year, but that's ok.

For horror I'm so glad I went back to Signalis and finished it, what a strange masterpiece, loved the tone and how it could be genuinely scary and affecting even with its retro style graphical choices. Also played Doom 3 which I started 20 years ago(yeesh) and it was such a joy to finally finish it. Definitely worth playing, and so different from Doom 2016, if you're not good with jumpscares i would maybe steer clear.

For side scrolling action I loved Blasphemous 2 and Cyber Shadow. Two very different games, both with tight controls and a very addictive challenge. Currently replaying Cyber Shadow and having just as good of a time as I had this summer.

Also loved Neva and Crypt Custodian, mechanically, two very different games, but both on some level tackling grief and the difficulties in overcoming and growing through it, and also the love we receive from friends who help us on our journey and become one with us.

Honorable mention: Floppy Knights and Animal Well, hardly fair to just qualify Animal Well as an honorable mention, what an astounding accomplishment of game mechanics and confounding puzzles leading you through a labyrinth. Floppy Knights on the other hand was incredibly silly and fun cartoon styled tactical combat that helped me come back to gaming when I'd been in a rut and very depressed and burnt out. Give yourself love and compassion when you feel like that, and try to seek help if you need it.

What will you be getting into? Or what did you love this year?

Rolicking with your snow white wolf and fighting off the rot that bleeds through the lands? Exploring the city as a kitty? Having a holiday party with Mario, Peach and all the rest?

Let me know below!
