Best strategy to deter street sellers I'm not interested in and reduce the high pressure sales pitch
this is not my first time in an arab land, but it's been a while; perhaps since COVID, people are extra ferocious, but man today had me a little pissed off.
I'm from NYC and a firm "nah man, no." repels 99% of people approaching me for anything. Sometimes I go to Canal street (in NYC) or wherever just to browse around and only rarely do I have to say "yo I'm from here, leave me be. If I need something I'll let you know" or "do I look like a tourist?"
I get that when I go into a rug place, the staff there are gonna do their song and dance, but sometimes I'm just looking and the aggressive pitch really turns me off. Towards the end of the day I was getting kinda nasty with people, getting loud
What can I say or do to get people to leave me alone? I don't speak arabic or french but I'm good with languages and pronunciation. I'm even thinking about writing on an index card some weirdo sentence like "I suffer from a strange insanity, please do not speak to me unless I speak to you first" and handing it to people. Or Writing it big and taping it to my shirt.
