Anybody remove bad finishes?

I got a great deal on a Silvertone Artist 1522S and I’m going to restore it. The guitar is covered in about 1mm of glitter and glue. It will scrape off to the original finish (which I’d like to leave in tact as these guitars are very valuable). Has anybody here removed glitter from a guitar? Trying to find the fastest and least damaging way to get it off while not destroying the original finish underneath.
