LG Gram 16 - Disappointed over Loud Fan Noise
edit: This was submitted long ago, but I took the advice of some users here who suggested downloading "LG Smart Assist" and setting the fan speed to "low". I did that and this MARKEDLY IMPROVED the fan noise. I almost can't hear it anymore. I've picked this laptop back up, and it's my daily again. Still disappointed in how warm this thing can get, and for the love of god don't put it to "sleep" and stuff it in a backpack.
HERE is the link to the model I bought. .
Hey all, not sure if this is an appropriate submission or not - but I wanted to come on here and write about my experience with the LG Gram 16. I bought this model about a year ago for travelling between sites for my job. The ONLY downside (and the reason I'm making this post) is that this unit runs extremely hot 24/7 and the fan makes a constant high-pitch "whirrrr" noise. Even when I just turn it on and open a browser.
I don't even use this laptop for any intensive applications or open up tons of tabs. Often I just need some 365 apps running in the background for communication, and a couple web tabs open when I'm working on various projects. It's gotten to the point where I can't even use this laptop because the background noise of the laptop is so bad it just gets too distracting.
I'm pretty disappointed because this was the first non-Lenovo manufacturer I decided to try after ~7 years or so of exclusively using Lenovo. We recently refreshed an old Lenovo at my job, and even though the specs aren't as good as the LG Gram, and it's about 5 pounds heavier, I'm unfortunately going to have to retire this LG Gram after about a year of use, simply because of the loud noise.
Maybe I'm just expecting too much, this laptop is fast and light, so I think the manufacturer had to make some sacrifices with the amount of space that the components have.
