advice for authenticating modern cards
i recently bought some singles from various tcgplayer star sellers and wanted to make sure that i was going about authenticating them correctly. based on what i’ve learned from this sub im pretty sure these are all real, but since i’m new to authenticating cards i wanted to get some feedback on if im looking for the right things and if there’s anything else i should be doing.
for the trainer/galarian gallery cards and irs i was able to compare them to authenticated cards from tcgplayer direct, and basically all the features matched up - non v/vmax/vstar trainer and galarian gallery: holo covers the just the background and eyes of the main pokemon + trainer - v/vmax/vstar trainer and galarian gallery: textured with diagonal holo - sv illustration rares: same as non v/vmax/vstar trainer and galarian gallery, but with diagonal holo
i don’t have anything on hand to compare the togekiss cards to, but what i noticed was - togekiss v: diagonal holo that covers the background, eyes, and silver details on the card - togekiss vmax rainbow: glittery-type holo and texture
the only inconsistency i found was that trainer gallery v/vmax cards from astral radiance and silver tempest don’t have texture on the borders, while the vmax/vstar galarian gallery cards do, but i’m not sure if that’s a red flag or just a change they made between sets.
in short, the main things i looked at were holo patterns, texture, plus the super obvious signs for fakes (misspellings, 1000 hp, wrong names, etc). if there’s anything else that i should know for authenticating cards in the future i’d love to hear it!
