Non hunting land owner question
So just to start: I grew up a city boy and had no exposure to hunting. I have no problems with hunting but I also am completely ignorant on many things. Which leads to my question.
I recent came into some former hunting land. What quickly has become apparent is the piles of bones laying everywhere. So. Many. Bones. I’ve probably hauled out five contractor bags of bones so far. Dozens of skulls, etc. (including one cattle skull). Mostly in clearings, possibly where the deers were field dressed?
I should note that just before closing someone dumped a carcass on the property for the coyotes to take care of. So I’m not sure if the bones all came from the property. (There is also some trash dumping that has happened in the property I’m cleaning up.)
So two questions: is this amount of bones normal in a hunting ground? Also some of the bones (leg bones near as I can tell) seem cut cleanly across the bone. Again I’m no hunter but I’ve been a cook for a long time and cutting a bone like this would take a saw and some determination. Is that common or something the coyotes would be able to do?
I’m asking with the hopes of learning from the experience of this community and becoming a little less of a dumb ass. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with me.
