Driving from Arcata to Portland next week

Hi. We are heading up to Arcata to visit Cal Poly Humboldt next weekend then planned to drive to Portland. How is that drive? 101 to 199 to 5. Is it even gonna be doable or do you think weather will affect road closures? Just trying to decide if we should attempt the trek or drive back down to San Fran and fly to Portland. P.s. for reference, my kids get car sick so wondering about the road (is it a super windy road?) and we will be in a rental car so no chains since we won't know what kind of car we are getting til we get to SF. P.s.s. We are planning on staying at the Blue Lake Casino but it says the 299 is shut down. Perhaps we should book elsewhere??
