Did Amazon actually reduce the number of episodes Viv wanted, or is that just speculation?

I see this bit of "trivia" EVERYWHERE. Reddit, YouTube, Twitter...everyone treats it as fact as an explanation for the show's pacing, but I can't find any proof or source to back it up. No Twitter or Blue Sky post from Viv or any of the other crew saying so, no interview or stream or convention appearance, nothing.

Especially suspicious is that Amazon doesn't actually own the series, A24 does. Amazon just distributes it. In fact, the show was already finished before Amazon picked it up. The reason the show was delayed was because the original distributor dropped out and they were trying to find a new one.

Has this piece of trivia been confirmed, or is it just fans making up an explanation as to why the pacing was rushed?
