All the little ways women are treated differently than men when doing the exact same thing
I've been noticing this all my life, the incredible double standards everywhere for the same behavior from women and men.
So I just had a little example of it this morning buying groceries. I normally never get in the express lane (10 items or less) when I have more than that. Today there were big line-ups for the other cashiers, and no-one at the express, except one guy, who had 20 items. I know because I counted them! So I counted what was in my cart and i also had 20. There was no-one else behind me for this lane.
I decided if the cashier was happy to check him out with 20, I would do the same. Sure enough when it comes my turn, she says "No Mam, you have too many." I told her I had the exact same amount as the guy she just checked out. She argued a bit but finally relented. She had said nothing to the guy who had the same amount, and in fact, had been kind of flirty with him.
At this point, another guy gets in the line and starts yelling at me for being in express; I explained another guy just went through with 20 ....blah blah, but he keeps yelling at me. No-one says anything to the guy who did it before me.
I know it's a trivial example but it's the principle that bothers me, and i see it constantly. And I have to say, it's often women who are treating other women differently than they treat men!
I've also noticed in restaurants, you get served way sooner if there's a man at the table. Just another example.
Would love to hear other examples of this from women in the sub!
