Is DOS2 confusing, or am I just dumb?

So I've played baldur's gate 3 a lot since the full release now and I love it a lot, so I decided to buy myself the Eternal edition of DOS2

I've played for just about 4 hours now and i'm still at fort joy, I have no idea what to do and I don't seem to be making any progress. Is the game just naturally confusing, or am I just dumb or missing something? I just really need some tips about what I'm supposed to do, without actually spoiling the game of course

Another thing I'm wondering about, how am I supposed to regenrate the hit points of all my characters after a battle? There can't possibly be enough potions and food to use to heal after every time you've been in a battle or taken hit points
