Why is swearing so popular

Cursing is so common that it almost seems like required words. People repeat over and over the same 4 or 5 words, constantly. Seems mindless to express yourself with the same words over and over, not to mention how uncivil it sounds. Movies are really bad with cursing. Have you ever watched a movie with little or no swearing and said that it would have been better with more swearing?
