"Stain ready" doors

So we're doing a job and the customer ordered a bunch of doors 5 years ago, he's just getting around to hiring us to install/finish them. They are supposed to be stain ready. We expect there to be some light sanding as is industry standard, which we did and then some. The panels all had pretty dramatic milling lines against the grain all around them. The faces of many of the doors had been sanded by someone at the factory, most likely removing excess glue from assembly. They fucked up the doors something awful by leaving squiggly lines EVERYWHERE. And we didn't notice how bad they were until we started putting stain on.

The worst part is the doors have a veneer on them so thin that we saved through it in 3 seconds trying to sand out the squiggly lines with 220 grit.. so now the customer has to just live with these stupid squiggly lines all over their doors because they can't return the doors as it's been too long.

We have tried working our magic by applying faux finish over the lines to minimize the appearance of them but there's no way we can make it look as perfect as we'd like.

What the fuck Brosco?
