Armed Robbery Outside The Banshee; WGRZ Fearmongers
The following two claims were reported with no fact checking in the article:
- "The police have had some major cutbacks ad they're struggling to staff the area," said Dave Metz of the Chippewa Alliance, who also says criminals appear to be becoming more brazen.
- "We've had some incidents down here ... since they changed the laws with raise the age the no bail, some of these criminals just don't care. I mean, they'll commit a crime because there's no fear."
The idea that the Buffalo Police Department, who are getting a proposed 17% increase in their budget this year, don't have enough manpower to patrol Chippewa is laughable.
On top of that, armed robbery will absolutely get you held on bond in New York State as the bail reform applies to misdemeanors and non-violent felonies and this man is heavily implying that that isn't the case.
In any event, I find it disgraceful that a news organization would parrot these claims, which are untrue, with no rebuttal. How many people will read this and just accept it because "the news is reporting it, therefore it must be true"?
