Buzz lightyear disappeared?

I was grinding his mastery, just a few games away from the title and he just vanished and my next game i was playing Shelly instead of buzz lightyear. I don't understand why they'd just get rid of him at a random time without any warning when he was supposed to go away Tommorow. Now I can't get the title at all, which I would have gotten otherwise.
