does therapy work??

i’m in therapy, i’ve talked about my body image issues with my therapist. she basically said that i have an unhealthy obsession with my appearance and that, in her opinion, it has to do with me being a “perfectionist”. i tried to make her understand that in aspects that’s true (like wanting to be very handsome or stuff like that) but other aspects are based on societal norms and bullying (like my short height). she then said that we should figure out what the cause for this “perfectionism” is. i don’t know if this is helping me at all to be honest. does therapy even help? i’m well aware of my obsessions but they don’t go away no matter what and they make me severely distressed
