Police hit my car

Hey, sorry, unsure if this is the right place, but there isn’t really a Australian insurance sub. A police vehicle hit the rear left of my vehicle today (their fault) in the shopping centre car park. No dramas with the police, they apologised, their supervisor came out and gave me a CAD number, the driving officers and supervisors name and service number, vehicle call sign etc. The issue is with my insurance, at this moment (still waiting to hear back after an angry phone call) they are refusing to waiver my excess even after I provided all the details the police gave me - because I do not have the police officers residential address or phone number. From what I’m told the CAD number and the officers name and service number should suffice and my insurer should be chasing the WA police up for repair payment. They seem to want to chase up the officer himself? Any advice to take back to the insurer (NRMA) would be appreciated.
