What do you consider to be examples of "double taxation"?
Discussions here last week relating to inheritance taxes saw some redditors describing that as double taxation.
Since the money is taxed once (when earned by the parents) and once (when received by the children) I thought that was a bit, um, novel.
When I think about "double taxation" it's related to the same person getting taxed twice, not the same money. But it did get me thinking about other situations that could be broadly described as "double taxation", that have different tax treatments:
- Paying GST on fuel excises
- Paying income tax on company profits
- Paying GST on items that the retailer already paid excise/wholesale taxes on
- US Government taxing overseas citizens on income earned (and taxed) overseas
What other examples are there?
