Wave and Particle nature as distinct characteristics does not lie on same ground

So I was reading some Particle Physics books read that for Waves to do “Wave Motion” all they do is displace the particle of the medium ( Obv we are talking only about mechanical waves) and this is what we called Wave motion but its just particles reaction to propagation of energy isn’t it? If particles cannot show interference and Waves can but Waves are just propagation of energy in between particles , Like I cant wrap my head around this.What Tf is actually a wave? If any experienced person can solve my query I would feel enlightened, Thanks
