Instant Regret! Should I switch?

I've chosen the Magic Combat Mastery path after killing a Giant. I'm now starting to regret this decision. I only have Fremmy unlocked so far.

How bad is my choice? Shall I go ranged from now on (if so, what echo boss is doable for the 6th tier?), or double down on the Mage path?
